ABX AIR RELAY FOR LIFE TEAM RECOGNIZED
National Team of Excellence Award Presented
WILMINGTON, OH - Feb. 19, 2007 - A banner recognizing ABX Air (NASDAQ:ABXA)
as a Nationwide Team of Excellence in the American Cancer Society (ACS)
Relay for Life now resides at ABX Air headquarters in Wilmington,
Ohio.
“I was honored to accept the award on behalf of the ABX Air team captains,” said Jeff Smart, ABX Air Systems Support Specialist and a member of the Clinton County Relay Planning Committee. “They and the rest of the team put a lot of work into the relay.”
Last October, the team captains attended the Ohio Division awards banquet and were presented with the Top Team in Ohio award. It was the third consecutive year that the ABX Team has been one of the top teams in Ohio and one of the top 20 in the nation.
At that time, Lori Reed, Southwest Regional Income Director for ACS told team captains Cheryl Hodge, Angie Poppaw and Cindy Wilson: “It is great that ABX is so supportive of the Relay and that your employees are so active as a team.”
After the fiscal year for the relay closed and the results were in,
the ACS announced that ABX Air’s team was the top fund-raising team
in the Ohio Division. It was ranked 18th in the nation and was one
of only three teams from Ohio to earn the Nationwide Team of
Excellence award.
“It gives you a good feeling to know
your efforts are helping so many,” said Wilson.
Poppaw added, “It is exciting to know
that research is being done to someday find a cure for cancer in
part because of the funds we raised.”
Last year the team raised over $62,000
through several fundraisers including casual days, a golf outing,
pancake breakfasts and more.
Not to rest on their laurels, the ABX
Relay for Life Team for 2007, headed by Belinda Lorenzo, Poppaw and
Wilson, is already busy at work. While the relay event is not until
mid-June, the team is already serving pancakes to build their team
total for the year. With an Animated Characters theme, this year’s
relay should be fun and profitable. Be sure to stop by the Denver
Williams Park on June 14 and 15 and look for the ABX Air team.
