ABX AIR RELAY FOR LIFE TEAM SECOND IN OHIO
Team is Seventh in the Nation

WILMINGTON, OH - December 28, 2004 - The ABX Air Relay for Life Team gathered more support in 2004 than ever before, netting $67,000 in donations for the American Cancer Society (ACS) event. That total earned the team the number two spot in all of Ohio and a seventh place ranking in the nation.

“Employees and management have been very supportive,” said Angie Poppaw, one of the team co-captains. “Everyone supported our fundraisers all year – from pancake breakfasts to book sales and even an auction at our annual picnic.”

Relay for Life teams can raise funds from October 1 through September the following year. All donations are then tallied and team placements are awarded at a ceremony in mid-October.

"Many people are touched during their lives by someone with cancer, and ABX employees are no different,” continued Poppaw. “They support the team’s events because they want to support not just our team, but the cause for our team.”

Over the past several years including team and corporate donations, ABX Air has donated over $600,000 to the ACS for use in funding research to prevent and treat cancer. This is the second year ABX Air has been recognized as a top team in the state, also earning the Purple Award in 2003.

Many ABX Air employees are involved with the team activities and with the organization countywide. ABX employees Shari Brucken, Norm Hansel, Sherri Krazl, Jeff Smart and Janelle Smart were all involved in the county Relay for Life event.

While teams are already working on next year’s fund raising, the official kick-off for the 2005 Relay for Life is planned for Jan. 20, 2005, at 6:30 p.m. at the Roberts Arena. The 2005 theme is United We Stand Against Cancer.
