1988

A control tower purchased the previous year became operational.
The airline received an "Aircraft Cargo Container" patent for its unique C-Container, designed to fit into the airplane through the passenger door, and to fit the contours of the aircraft once inside.
The first regional sort hub opened in Allentown, Pennsylvania, in November.
The airline changed its name to ABX Air, while its parent company experienced nearly 40 percent shipment growth.
