ABX AIR RANKED FIRST IN THE FLY QUIET PROGRAM
Portland International Jetport Recognizes Leaders

WILMINGTON, OH - October 30, 2008 - ABX Air was recognized recently by the Portland (Maine) International Jetport (PWM) for having the highest rate of compliance in its “Fly Quiet” program. This program encourages pilots to fly a certain approach, the Harbor Visual Approach, when arriving to the airport.

“This is a totally voluntary program,” said Ryan Kimball, coordinator of the program for PWM. “Additionally, the weather has to cooperate to allow the approach to be flown.”

ABX Air achieved a 91 percent compliance rate for the fiscal year July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2008, flying the approach 139 times of the 153 it was available to them.

ABX Air Chief Pilot Jack Jarvis accepted the award. “Our pilots do a great job working to be good neighbors,” said Jarvis.

Kimball added, “It is a fairly complicated approach, requiring a 3,000-foot ceiling and four miles of visibility. Air Traffic Control lets the pilots know when using the approach is an option and then it is up to the flight crew.”

The approach takes the crews out over the harbor and allows the aircraft to make its descent away from the residential areas.

This year PWM recognized five airlines all reaching a minimum of 85 percent compliance. All 16 airlines using the jetport are monitored throughout the year. This is the second year of the Fly Quiet program and the community recognizes the effort.

“We want to thank these airlines for being good neighbors,” said Kimball.
