SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT OF FLIGHT ROBERT MORGENFELD RETIRES
Over 23 Years Spent with ABX Air’s Flight Department
WILMINGTON, OH - July 21, 2008 - July 1, 2008, marked the final day in Bob Morgenfeld’s 23-year flight with ABX Air. He has been Senior Vice President of ABX Air Flight Operations since 1994. He retired leaving Mike Gerdes at the controls of the flight department.
“I have worked for many years with a great group of folks,” said Morgenfeld. “It is overwhelming to try to say goodbye to all the people who have been a part of my career here for the last 23 years.”
Morgenfeld started at ABX Air in June of 1985 as a First Officer in the YS-11 aircraft. Over the years he worked as Assistant Chief Pilot, a Flight Standards Pilot and as Manager of Flight Standards. From there he went on to be System Chief Pilot, Director of Operations/System Chief Pilot and then to Vice President of Flight operations in January of 1992.
Described as a gentleman and a calming influence by his peers, Morgenfeld saw ABX Air add and retire aircraft types; he navigated through poor weather conditions, airfield improvements, relocation of the flight operations areas – more than once – and growing pains as the fleet size went over 100 aircraft.
While the schedules and the aircraft and the regulatory agencies all played a role in his daily tasks, it is the people he says he will remember the most.
“It has been my honor and privilege to work with the finest Flight Department and pilot group in the industry,” said Morgenfeld. “While I will certainly miss everyone, I am confident they will continue their tradition of excellence in all they do.”
